Putting an end to months of speculation and often violent protests, CBFC today clears Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati with a U/A certificate and suggested the title be changed from Padmavati to “Padmavat”.
CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi tells that there are no cuts made in the film as it has been rumoured by the media but only five modifications.
Firstly to change the disclaimer clearly to one that does not claim historical accuracy.
Second, the title Padmavati to be changed to Padmavat as the filmmakers have attributed their material to the fictional poem Padmavat and not the history.
Third, make modifications in the song Ghoomar to make the depiction befitting the character being portrayed.
Forth, modify the incorrect references to historical places.
And fifth, add a disclaimer which clearly makes the point that the film in no manner subscribes to the practice of Sati or seek to glorify it.
Considering the complexities and concerns around the film, the requirement for a special panel was felt by CBFC to add perspective to the final decision of the CBFC official committee.
Also importantly, please note that the filmmaker, Bhansali productions, in a written communication to CBFC had themselves too requested for a special panel of historians and members of the Rajput community to view the film.
Now the movie is all set to bang the Bollywood box office.
