The BJP MP raked up a controversy when she blamed Mumbai’s huge population for today’s tragic fire at Kamala Mills and suggested that a population limit should be fixed for each city.

Actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Hema Malini raked up a controversy when she blamed Mumbai’s huge population for today’s tragic fire at Kamala Mills which claimed at least 14 lives.The BJP MP from Mathura commended the police for doing “great job” and said that such incidents (like fire) are recurring because of the high population in the maximum city.”Police are doing a great job. It is the growing population which is responsible for such untoward incidents,” said the 69-year-old actor.The population is so much, the city is spreading like anything. Some restrictions should be done on the population. Each city should have certain population/limit, after that they should not be allowed. Then let them go to another city: Hema Malini, BJP MP

Hema Malini also questioned the “irresponsible” authorities for not imposing restrictions on restaurants. “So many restrictions are put when we build our bungalows. How can they give permission to restaurants just like that?” the actor asked.”Some restrictions should be imposed on the population. First of all, each city should have a certain population, certain limit. After that, they (people) should not be allowed. Let them go to another city, next city,” she suggested.Fourteen people were killed in the massive fire that started around 12.30 am in the 1 Above pub on the terrace of the building in Lower Parel and spread to Mojo’s Bistro on the third floor, one level below.According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) Disaster Control, the blaze was noticed around 12.30 am at The Mojo Bistro and 1 Above, both rooftop restaurants in The Kamla Trade House in Lower Parel area of south Mumbai.

PresidentRam Nath Kovind, vice president MVenkaiah Naidu, Prime MinisterNarendra Modi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the incident and offered their condolences to the families of the victims.Taking serious note of the incident, BMC Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta announced a suspension of five officials, including Assistant Municipal Commissioner Prashant Sapkale, for various lapses and ordered a probe which will be completed within 15 days.Fadnavis, who visited the site in the afternoon, warned of stringent action against the officials and others found guilty.
