First Women President Of Nasscom

The IT industry’s apex body in India,  National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) will name Debjani Ghosh as its President-Designate.

She will succeed R Chandrashekhar after fulfillment of his tenure in March 2018. Ghosh served as the former managing director of Intel South Asia and will become the first woman President of Nasscom.

The industry body in a statement announced, “the appointment of Debjani Ghosh, former MD, Intel South Asia, as the Nasscom President-Designate, succeeding R Chandrashekhar, President, Nasscom upon the completion of his term in March 2018”. Ghosh come as a member of Nasscom’s Executive Council and a trustee of Nasscom Foundation.

“The industry is today at a very interesting inflection point and Nasscom has a key role to play in catalyzing the next phase of growth of the sector. Under Debjani’s leadership, Nasscom will further enhance its initiatives in innovation, disruptive technologies, skilling and new market access. Ghosh’s appointment is a reflection of the importance of diversity and inclusion for the industry,” said  Raman Roy, Chairman of Nasscom.

Ghosh, commenting on her appointment said, ”I firmly believe that Nasscom is much more strategically placed than any other forum to drive the IT agenda of the country”.

India’s IT and business process outsourcing industry has emerged as one among the  growth drivers for the country’s economy and is today evaluated as a  USD 150 billion sector representing multiple sub-sectors. The segment is however witnessing numerous issues which have popped up lately, including stringent work visa norms in important markets like the US and the UK coupled with volatile business environments. This has further fueled the worry lines in the sector.

“The past few years have been exciting and challenging for India as well as the Indian IT-BPM industry. It has been an enriching experience for me personally, working with stakeholders across the globe and strengthening Nasscom and the industry’s position as organisations working towards bringing a positive change to the way the world operates. I am happy to pass on the baton to Debjani and I am sure, with her experience and leadership, Nasscom and the industry will scale greater heights of success,” added Chandrashekhar.

Nasscom at present is also hosting ninth edition of Nasscom Game Developer Conference (NGDC) 2017. The body has partnered with Unity Technologies to organize their developer conference ‘Unite’ in India for the first time.

“Unite India” will be a gathering of regional artists, developers, publishers, training providers and enthusiasts interested in Unity, a platform for creating video games, simulations and other interactive and VR/AR content,” said a statement.

“Featuring talks, panels, super-pitches, tutorials and more, NGDC 2017 is shaping up to become our biggest and most important conference yet,” said Rajesh Rao, Chairman, Nasscom Gaming Forum.
